Understanding LED Television Technology

December 14th, 2009

It was not too long ago that we were arguing the case for and against LCD and plasma televisions. And though LCD TV eventually came out the victor, due to its superior all round function and practicality, its crown is now under threat. That this threat comes from its sibling the LED television, is all the more intriguing.

Initially of course, it may seem just another way for the major players in the world of TV screens to get their hands on more of our hard earned money. But it is more than this; it is a step forward and the benefits to be had are far reaching.

In essence, an LED television is just the same as the LCD that is probably sitting in your lounge right now. The difference is regards how the light emitting diodes, (LED), send the light to the screen. This is of course very complex, but in layman terms relies on backlit or sidelit, (edge), technology.

Having the lights set up in this way allows for greater control of the picture; lights can be dimmed and brightened independently of their neighbours; creating a richer content and feel and most important of all, creating true image black scale; they key to picture quality.

Whilst the benefits are far reaching with LED television technology being able to produce better quality images with high brightness and contrast levels, the benefits do not stop here. This better quality image is produced using less power and creating less light and heat wastage. This of course also allows the lifespan to be much longer than even the most robust of LCD TV currently on the market.

The depth of the TVs is also thinner than what is presently available. Amazing as this may sound, it is quite true. The depth of LCD and plasmas are presently given in inches, an LED television will be measured in millimetres; with somewhere around 9 or 10 being the standard, though screens of just 6mm are available now.

However, new technology does of course command a higher price; and whilst quite sizable LCD screens can now be purchased from six hundred dollars, you will not find many LED screens bigger than fifty inches for much less than two thousand five hundred. The savings on energy consumption, (estimated to be around forty percent), will offset this somewhat of course.

The benefits then are quite significant with this new technology; better pictures, better lighting; better control, and all whilst having a positive impact on the environment. Indeed, the only downside remains the price.

But these prices will fall as demand picks up and we really recognize the benefits of LED television technology, (and as newer technologies come on line of course!)

The High Definition Television Experience

December 12th, 2009

A favourite pass time for a lot of people is to curl up on the couch with a blanket and watch a good movie. A high definition television will bring a much deeper experience to a new movie or just your old time favourite.

You will feel more moved by the programs and will feel like you have never watched the program with this much clarity in the past. Once you get a taste of the crisp clear picture on your new high definition TV you will wonder how you have lived this long without it.

When you watch a program in high definition you will feel as if the objects on the screen are alive and right in front of you. The designers wanted to give you the feeling that you are in the movie and facing the trials right along with your favourite actor or actress. They were surely successful and you will love it.

Many older televisions have a foggy look to the black or shady areas of a picture. It may appear that there is a fuzz or snow covering part of it. With high definition, the black and shady areas will be crisp and clear. You will truly feel as if the picture is alive.

Watching your favourite sports team in high definition is usually an exciting time. The excitement is raised tenfold when you are watching it in high definition. As the players run down the field you might be able to see every blade of grass. Have you ever had the problem of identifying a number on a jersey because the picture was not clear? You will surely not have that problem in high definition. When a play goes right or wrong, you will know right away who is responsible.

When high definition blew up and everyone started purchasing these televisions, the actors and actresses had to be very careful in how they were dressed or made up on the screen. Because the picture is so much clearer, you can see every bump or flaw on the faces of your favourite star.

When you become the owner of a high definition TV you will find that your friends and family will flock to your house when a good program or movie will be playing. They will want to enjoy the excellence that high definition brings and will not be shy about inviting themselves over.

The Holiday seasons are right around the corner and your high definition television may make your home the new gathering place. Sharing a wonderful home cooked meal with your family is a great tradition every year. If your family can all get full than stretch out for a good football game in front of the high definition television they will all love the holiday experience that much more.

Your opinion of what a good television picture should look like will definitely be adjusted once you have purchased and set up the television and watched your first program in high definition. The difference is completely awesome.

If you are worried about the cable companies, you should know that most of them offer high definition programs that will look stunning on your television. If you are a true television lover, call your cable company today and tell them that you have purchased a high definition television and you are ready to be set up for the magic.

LED Televisions, Picture Perfection For Your Eyes

December 12th, 2009

If you’re shopping for high definition televisions, then you will repeatedly come across something called LED television. LED televisions have become very popular and are experiencing great success in electrical market. The attraction of consumers towards the LED TV is due to the improvements in picture quality. Watching your favourite programs on high definition LED televisions is a feeling that you should experience.

The use of LED’s was developed to enrich the color and to enhance the clarity of the viewing images. Once the technology was perfected and LED’s were introduced to large scale production of LED televisions, their popularity rocketed in a short space of time. The special feature of the LED is that it is able to direct light in one single path or direction. This feature is absent in most of the other incandescent and fluorescent lights.

Similar to the LED TV we also have LCD televisions. Both the LED and the LCD television function similar to one another, however the fundamental difference between them is that to light the televisions display, LEDs are used instead of the fluorescent lamps used in conventional LCD televisions. The LED television utilizes LEDs to light the display in one of two ways. Firstly when the LED are used in the edge of the television screen it is called an edge-lit LED television and if it is present behind the television then it is called a back-lit LED television.

LED televisions are more accurately described as an LED lit LCD TV as they still have an LCD panel, it is just the method of lighting that varies. Some related advertisements have been criticized by advertising authorities as being misleading resulting in clarification of advertisements relating to LED TVs.

There is a great improvement in picture quality of an LED television when compared to older conventional LCD TVs. This is because of the advanced features incorporated in to the LED television. Also in addition, the screen sizes available ranges from 32 inches and above. The screen size compared with other televisions is quite big, but in contrast to the diagonal screen dimensions the thickness of the television has been greatly reduced when compared to previous televisions.

When you begin to look into the cost of LED televisions, they are quite expensive. This increased cost is justified by the improved picture quality and the real feeling which you get when watching LED televisions. Another advantage of using LED televisions is that, it minimizes power consumption by up to 40 percent.

Because of the extra competition in the market between the LED, LCD and plasma televisions, users are confused with the models available making their purchasing choice difficult. A good comparison between these televisions is helpful. The LCD televisions are very good value and have a large range of sizes. Plasma and LED TVs produce better picture quality and come in larger screen sizes which is reflected in their greater costs.

Samsung, Sony, LG and JVC all produce televisions which use LEDs in their designs. To judge the benefits and application of LEDs you need to view some of these TVs for yourself. Only then will you see if the price justifies the improved quality and designs.

Therefore many people believe that it was only a period of time until television became part of the internet as well.

The HD in HDTV stands for high definition. Everything that you will see on this internet based television will be delivered at the highest resolutions possible. There is no need to have to buy a fancy television to get HDTV all you need is a basic home computer.

With the expense of cable and satellite services soaring through the roof, many people are finding it difficult to afford both their internet service as well as their cable service for their television. The other fact of the matter is more and more people are spending more time on the internet in comparison to watching their television.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money for an HD television set, and you can enjoy all of your favorite shows from your computers monitor. Many people have been able to cut down their monthly expenses immensely with the implementation of HDTV online.

However, despite the price of cable television, people are still interested in being able to watch shows that they show an immense amount of interest in. So by incorporating television and the internet people are not being forced to choose one thing over the other.

By navigating the internet you can find a plethora of sites that are actually offering this source of television for free. While, others are making you sign a contract with their company, in the same manner as you would if you were obtaining cable for your television. The main difference of course, if you can enjoy all of your favorite television shows right from your home computer.

However, since the television is being offered on the internet, you need to do your best to avoid getting scammed by companies that promise you free viewing and then do not follow through with their agreement.

Before you ever commence in signing up for any HDTV service on the internet you need to ensure that the site is legitimate. Do not give away any of your personal information including your credit card information before you have carefully evaluated the site to test for its legitimacy.

You can ensure that the site is genuine by gathering as much information as you possibly can about the site. Peruse through the internet to find reviews and other pertinent information that prove that the site is real, and not just a scam that is set out to obtain your personal information.

Watch HDTV On Your Computer

December 8th, 2009

Have you ever considered using you PC to watch HD TV, well it couldn?t be more easy. In order to watch HDTV on your computer then you most choose one of two methods. You could either opt to watch TV over the internet by using one or more of the many websites that provide TV services. Alternatively you could buy a PC TV tuner and effective transform your PC into a television.

The fist way of turning your PC in to a TV requires the purchase of a PC TV tuner. This is a piece of hardware that takes a TV signal and displays it on your TV. They come in the form of a PCI card or a USB adaptor. Both do the same job and are easy to install. If you have a desktop PC then either type of adaptor should be suitable. However if you have a notebook or laptop then USB is the way to go.

HDTV adaptors come in a multitude of shapes and sizes. They have different capabilities and features, the most important thing is to make sure they are capable for use with the TV signal that you will be using (ie satellite, cable, RF etc). Some have features which you may find useful like ? live pause, recording timer and radio tuning.

Some have a ?built in? aerial, or for a better reception can plugged into your TV aerial, cable or satellite systems. Which ever method you use you will then have to ?tune? the adaptor to discover the TV stations that are available. Once done then all you need to do is use the viewing software to watch the channels on your computer.

TV tuner adaptors do not cost much (you can pick them up for less than $60). They are readily available online from most computer retailers. Makers of HDTV tuners include Creative, Leadtek, ATI and Pinnacle. When choosing the adaptor be sure to choose one which is HD capable if you require to watch high definition broadcasts.

Your second option for watching HD TV online is by watching television broadcast which are streamed over the internet by various providers. These providers take the TV channels and stream the data over the internet which your computer can display using a software viewer.

The benefits of this are that if you already have a suitable computer and internet connection then there is no extra investment in hardware required. You don?t need a super computer or a mega fast internet connection (2mb connection and above should be fine).

There are numerous providers of TV broadcasts on the internet. Just open your browser and search for ?watch TV online? to see for yourself. You will find some which are free, the quality of the broadcasts is usually poor and the range of channels is limited, they will largely be channels from around the world that you have never heard of. There are TV channel websites that involve fees these have are usually better quality with more familiar channels.

The advantages of watching HDTV online is that firstly you don?t need to buy an expensive HDTV and receiver and it is cheaper than subscribing to a satellite or cable TV company. The other thing is that it is mobile, wherever you have an internet connection you can watch HDTV online.

What You Should Know About Full HD TV

December 7th, 2009

Ask anybody in the world who knows about televisions which one is the best. They will all tell you the same thing without hesitation or stutter. The best TV out there today is the full high definition television. Also known as the full HD TV. It does however have a couple more names and these are always being added upon. All these other names agree too that the full high definition TV is the best. It is the true high definition TV.

There is no way of describing the superiority of the full hd TVs’ resolution without telling you about the high definition TVs’ resolution. The high definition is achieved by increasing the number of horizontal lines that run vertically on the TV to make the image. The standard definition TV had 480. The hd TV has a maximum of 1080i. The full hd TV comes in at double that of the high definition TV.

Of course if you want anything that is of superior quality then you must be willing to put down some superior quality cash. If the quality of a full high definition TV is twice that of a high definition TV then how much do you think the price is? The high definition TV retails at about 300 bucks for the cheapest I could find. The cheapest full high definition TV I laid my eyes on cost five fifty.

The quality of the full high definition TV however can only be noticed above that of the high definition TV if you get the right size. For example if you put a 32 inch full high definition TV next to a high definition TV of equal size you will not notice a difference. The resolution of both the TV’s will look exactly the same. It beats the point therefore of buying a higher priced full high definition TV that is 32 inches.

There are very many different brands offering a variety of full high definition TVs. There are those which however manage to corner the market and dominate it because of their features and quality. One of the leading full high definition TV brands is the Sony bravia. It has managed to identify and capture its consumer market.

As the full high definition TVs’ work on such a high resolution, media manufactures had to adjust to this. Now the DVD’s and discs are all in high resolution formats. Otherwise the full high definition TV would be able to show high resolution but would have no high resolution media to play. They therefore now have the HD DVD and the blue-ray disc for them. These come with the movies and games in high resolution formats of 720p to 1080.

There is another decision to be made about the type of full hd TV that you want to buy. They are in a further two classes, these are the LCD and the plasma full high definition TV screens. You will have to weigh for yourselves the advantages of each. Full high definition televisions with plasma screens have a no backlight system. This means that the contrast on screen is more dramatic than that of the LCD. It is therefore the way to go if you like to watch TV in the dark.

The full high definition TV will then only be left to choose by smaller considerations. One of these is the viewing distance in your house. Some of them are meant to be watched from a far to get the highest quality experience.

Looking At LED Televisions

November 22nd, 2009

The new LED Televisions coming out aren’t the same old ones that have been around for years. They are better, and in fact they might even be better then LCD or Plasma TVs. LED, which stands for light emitting diodes, have been around for a long time now. They have a new feature that is setting the electronic industry in motion.

Causing a huge stir in the electronics industry are these LED televisions that are coming out. They blow away standard televisions easily. But what has been surprising everyone is the fact that picture quality on these new models is great. Yes even bypassing the picture quality found on LCD and Plasma TVs.

There are many diodes that will make up the screen of these LED televisions. Instead of reflecting light off, they instead emit light to create a picture. Because of this type of technology the picture you get from an LED television is going to be brighter than other televisions you will find. Plus since they are operated by an electronic semiconductor that is one way, they will turn on a lot quicker.

Instead since the LED televisions have an electronic semiconductor that is one way it reacts quickly, and it will not blur images. Plus if you have electrical problems or drops in the current you may see that other televisions will lose color, but not the LED televisions.

Other advantages to LED Televisions include “eyelids”, which are a shade that you can place on the LED. It will help reduce glare when the sun or a bright light hits the screen. This will also let you see the images on the television when you’re standing at the side.

LED televisions will offer you colors that are richer and closer to real. Plus the cost of these new LED televisions are a lot less than what you can spend on LCDs or Plasma. Anyone who knows how much prices can be will appreciate this fact.

Comparing one of the new models of LED televisions that have a size of 48″, to a new LCD model in the same size. Let’s just say the savings that you will experience will be around 40%. Imagine the different things you can do with that money you’re saving?

So advantages that we have discovered for LED televisions over other competitors on the market. Well they include a sharper picture, with colors that are rich, plus a lot less expensive. They even offer the same advantages of LCDs and Plasma TVs with 1080p, and being able to play Blu-Ray players with clear pictures.

Check out the new models of LED televisions on the market, save a lot of money. Heck, why not buy a new Blu-Ray to go with it. Your family will love the new television.

Compare Full High Definition Televisions

November 19th, 2009

Since the switch-over to digital television the availability of HD TV to all has accelerated the demand for what is called full hd TV. Once the consumer is able to receive high definition broadcasts, a requirement of watching television at the best possible resolutions requires the viewer to be watching on a Full HD TV.

Not all high definition televisions are what can be called full HD TV. A HD ready TV for example usually meets the 720p spec. 720p televisions have a better picture quality than standard definition television but are not the best quality available. They are perfectly suitable where a smaller screen size is required, but when it comes to larger screens (eg a 42 inch LCD and upwards), then a 1080p is the standard that you should be looking to.

LED, plasma and LCD are all types of HD TVs. You are going to need to know some facts about advantages and disadvantages of these types of TVs. This knowledge will assist you in making the correct buying decision when it comes to purchasing the right HD TV for you.

Plasma HD TVs have been considered to be at the top-end of the market for some time. This is due to its superior picture quality, however its competitors have closed that gap recently. Plasma have enjoyed better colour reproduction and saturation, better contrast control, better at displaying fast moving images and they come in larger screen sizes. The down side to plasmas is they are heavy, less efficient and more expensive to buy and own.

LCD HD TVs have by far been the popular choice for some time. Its qualities include they are smaller, weigh less than plasmas, can display bright images, better range of sizes and because of their popularity have become the best value. They are maybe not as effective at displaying fast moving images and dark blacks.

The newest of HD technologies to hit the market is the LED TV. They are not as radically different a design as the name might suggest. LED TVs still incorporate the use of LCD panels to display the picture, but where they differ is the use LEDs in the lighting of the display. Previous LCDs used fluorescent lights which have a limited lifespan and reduced performance over time. LEDs have improved upon these deficiencies along with other inherent benefits. LEDs have better colour reproduction, energy-efficiency, and slimmer designs than their LCD equivalent models.

OLED and 3D televisions are something you may be starting to become aware of. Neither can be realistically considered as option when purchasing a new television as there are only limited options out there. They are however sure to be making a big impact in the future.

When making the choice of what type of television to buy, it should come down to a decision based on preference, budget and suitability. Be sure to do your home work on the subject to make the best out your investment and achieve the best experience you can from your full HD TV purchase.

LED Monitors Are The Bright Choice

November 9th, 2009

It is very likely that you have an LCD monitor attached to your desktop computer. If your monitor is less than twelve inches deep but more than one inch in depth, then you are reading this article on an LCD monitor or plasma monitor. You may love or hate your monitor, but you may find that you love LED monitors.

LED monitors use a different back light source than your current monitor. They use LED lights placed around the perimeter of the screen for lighting. The tubes in your current monitor only have a lifespan of three to four years before they begin to loose brightness. Unfortunately, there is no way for you as a consumer to replace those tubes. If your computer begins to loose its brightness, your only choice is to replace the monitor. This continual replacement of monitors is one source of electronic waste that could be lessened by use of LED monitors.

Another disadvantage of an LCD monitor is that it is bulkier and heavier than an LED monitor. The florescent tubes are the reason for the additional thickness. These monitors cannot be made as thin as the LED monitors, which may be less than half an inch in thickness. The LED displays are ideal for laptop computers.

A third disadvantage of the LCD monitors is that the florescent light does not produce a full color spectrum. There are some colors that are just not as bright with these monitors as they are with the LED monitors that produce a high quality white light.

The lower energy consumption of LED monitors is a great advantage to laptop users, especially those who are running on the battery. Additionally, LED monitors are brighter in color and have a longer lifespan before the lighting starts to dim.

Some users complain that the LED monitors are not evenly lit. This may be more of a matter of their eyes adjusting to using a new type of screen. Because the LED lights are placed around the edge of the display, the center may not be as bright, however this should not affect the overall use of the screen.

Still other users find LED screens to be too bright for their applications. Since the brightness can cause eyestrain after continued use, users are advised to find monitors that allow for brightness control. By dimming the monitor, users may reduce the amount of eyestrain they experience.

These two minor complaints should not be enough to keep you from purchasing one of the best monitors that are available today. These are the absolute thinnest monitors available. They are extremely clear and last much longer than the LCD monitors with florescent tubes.

Choosing a monitor with long life is a great choice for the environment. Whilst many people have simply given in to purchasing a new monitor every time they buy a new home or office computer, monitors should not have to be updated as often as the CPU. Choosing an LED monitor gives you the best chance of having a quality monitor that will last as long or longer than your current computer.

Full High Definition Television

November 8th, 2009

How do you tell modern televisions apart? What does it mean to be HD ready? What does it mean to have full HD TV?

Full HD TV - The technical specifications for a full High Definition LCD TV must include a 1080p as its pixel count. The contrast ratio will be listed as 1920 by 1080p. This 1080p designation signals that a television set can fully and completely broadcast the highest level of high definition broadcasting without reducing it to a smaller pixel count. If you play a high definition DVD or blu-ray disk, a full HD LCD TV can claim the best possible LCD picture. In the same manner, if you check the technical specifications for a full High Definition plasma set, you will also find a pixel count of 1080p. The contrast ratio will be listed as 1920 by 1080p. Again, this is the only way to ensure a true high definition picture without loss of pixel count.

High definition DVDs and their competitors, blu-ray disks, can be shown on full HD plasma sets without changing the original contrast rations.

HD Ready - Unlike full HD, HD ready refers to the built-in capability of a set to broadcast higher pixel High Definition at a lower pixel count or ratio. Look for these sets to have a pixel rate designated as 1080i or 728i. An HD tuner converts higher number HD into these slightly lower pixel rates. There is no extra effort required on the user’s part. The television will simply make the adjustments, and some viewers may not be able to see the contrast difference between HD ready and full HD televisions.

Set Sizes - LCDs dominate the market because they come in sets as small as 10 inches and increase in size to family home theater size. Full High Definition LCD TVs often include the 42 inch TV. Full HD LCD TV’s are considered ‘high end’ compared to their HD ready counterparts. Plasma set manufacturers sometimes offer a 42 inch TV, which may or may not be a full High Definition plasma set. However, plasmas are most often in giant sizes, such as 50 inches and 60 inches. They are primarily for home theater use. Full HD plasma sets are “high end” compared to similarly-sized HD ready plasma sets. Already generously large, the 42 inch TV is the smallest size where both plasma and LCDs are available.

HD Sets - All High Definition televisions are wide-screen. They have a ratio of 16:9 just as the HD broadcasts have a ratio of 16:9. This differs from the analog broadcast, which was a 4:3 ratio. LCDs are always widescreen due to either because they are HD ready sets or full HD LCD TV sets. Thinness is not an aspect of HD broadcast ability. It is simply a reflection of the technology used to make LCDs. Plasma sets are also widescreen, due to HD ready or full HD technology. Again, you cannot measure HD abilities by the thin size of many plasmas. This has little to do with whether or not a set is HD ready or a full HD plasma set.

HD Converter - For analog television users, an High Definition converter is a must. Almost all analog signals have been or are being replaced by digital signals. Only an HD converter can make an HD broadcast into an analog signal. Many users report that an HD converter has improved their analog picture considerably. Still, this is not a full HD picture as defined by manufacturing standards.

HDTV Online - High Definition TV online is accomplished through the pixel rate on your computer screen. It may or may not be high enough to deliver true HDTV. To find out if HDTV online is true full high definition, you should compare your pixel count and resolution to 1920 by 1080p. If it is lower, it is not full HD as compared to full HD LCD TVs and full HD plasma sets.
